Automobiles in German Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.

"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
